Fire crews worked to extinguish a three-alarm grass fire on the city's west side Thursday night.

The fire broke out just before 6:00 near the Eagle Creek Airpark and Rick's Cafe Boatyard restaurant. Rob Saunders with the Pike Township Fire Department says the fire started small but grew once the winds picked up which caused the firefighters on the scene to call for more resources. Firefighters from six different departments arrived to assist with the blaze.

Saunders says the fire burned about 40 to 50 acres of the field. Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with heat-related issues. No other injuries were reported.

Fire investigators are working to determine a cause of the fire.
