Several Hoosier students headed back to school Monday.

Summer break for Warren Township schools in Indianapolis is over.

Superintendent Dena Cushberry says bus drivers practiced routes last week. She is asking motorists to be vigiliant for buses and children walking to school.

Several school boards set their own calendars and switched to a balanced calendar for the 2012-13 school year.

Students in Brownsburg, Franklin Township, Milan, New Albany, New Castle are making the switch. In Southern Indiana, the Brown County School Corporation is switching to a balanced calendar.

The balanced calendar shortens summer break, but stretches out other breaks throughout the year.

IPS, Beech Grove and Washington Township schools return to the classroom Aug. 6.
