Law Professor Weighs In On Apple Samsung Suit

8/2/2012

Apple and Samsung are in court - suing one another over patent infringement for their smartphone technologies.

Listen:

Professor Lea Shaver with the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law says it's really only one hot case among literally dozens in the smartphone world. Shaver says many companies in this arena are embroiled in complicated, technological, legal issues. Apple says it has patented the design for its smart products which Samsung has copied. Shaver says the aim is for attorneys to simplify the issues for jurors. Shaver says most patent disputes are likely to be settled before they go to trial.

However, she says that probably won't be the case this time around. She adds that both sides have deep pockets and the cost of the actual trial will be nothing compared to the outcome for whichever sides prevails.
