A former IU and NFL star is getting ready to begin a new career.
After officially retiring from football last month, Antwaan Randle El, who played quarterback for IU before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers as a wide receiver, will join the broadcast team on the Big Ten Network starting this season. Randle El says he began doing broadcasting on the side last year and became comfortable with it. He says he decided to retire after not being able to find a good situation for him with another NFL team.
Randle El says he will be doing sideline reporting for several IU games as well as hosting a show called "The Next Level" on the network. He says he's hoping for the best for his alma mater but doesn't want to give any predictions for the upcoming season.
