Police Investigate Infant Death At Illegal Day Care

4-Month-Old Pronounced Dead At Hospital, Police Say

8/7/2012

Police are investigating the death of a 4-month-old girl at an unlicensed home day care.

Brownsburg emergency crews responded to a call of an unresponsive baby girl at 1290 Silver Ridge Lane the morning of July 18, police said.

Brownsburg police said the baby was rushed to IU West Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police are still investigating the cause of death, and it could be late August before autopsy and other test results are available.

Police said there were up to 14 children being cared for by five adults at the home day care, which is owned by Monica Cunningham. State law requires a license for owners of for-profit, home-based day care facilities that care for more than six children. Police said Cunningham's day care was not licensed and was operating illegally.

Authorities have ordered the day care to close.
