Coroner: Skull Found in White River is Not Lauren Spierer

8/10/2012

A forensic anthropologist says the skull found on the banks of the White River July 8th does not belong to missing IU student Lauren Spierer.

Marion County Chief Deputy Coroner Alfie Ballew says the skull was determined to have characteristics consistent with those of an east or southeast Asian male. The skull was found by a fisherman at the east bank of the river near Bluff Road and West Raymond Street. Dive teams searched the area for more remains but none were found.

DNA evidence will be used to identify the individual. Meanwhile, the Spierer investigation continues. The young woman disappeared in June of last year.
