A 4-year old girl from Michigan is being treated for serious injuries after she was struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon at the State Fair. Indiana State Police Sergeant Rich Myers says Megan Gembala of Buchanan, MI was walking with her 4-year old daughter Madalynn on an access road on the west side of the Fairgounds when the girl broke away and ran into the road.
The girl was struck by the right front tire of a truck driven by 49-year old Robert Ingalls of Mason, MI. Police say Ingalls immediately stopped and paramedics were called. Madalynn was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in serious condition.
Investigators say Ingalls and Gembala are employed by the midway operator at the Fairgrounds.
Sgt. Myers says Ingalls is cooperating with the investigation and no impairment is suspected, but he was taken for blood tests. It's an ongoing investigation, but no charges are expected to be filed.
