Durham School Services issued a plan late Saturday to cover bus routes for Indianapolis Public Schools on Monday after dozens of bus drivers called in sick to work. The situation left12,000 students without transportation Friday.
National Express is Durham's parent company and spokesperson Blaine Krage says managers have been working on an operations plan to cover a driver shortage if some drivers decide to skip work again. Krage says parents should plan to send kids to their bus stop as usual.
Krage says Durham understands that some drivers are frustrated with the State of Indiana eliminating their summer employment benefits, but the matter should be addressed in another forum that doesn't impact school children.
IPS Spokesperson John Althardt says IPS is working on a contingency plan for Monday, should the driver shortage continue.
