John Madden, 22, is accused of stabbing his puppy after an argument this morning with his roommate at their apartment in the 1200 block of West Ray Street.  

Our news gathering partners at RTV 6 report that the puppy is recovering at Animal Care and Control after surgery for nine stab wounds, one of them a six-inch cut to its belly.  Police say the stabbing was the result of an argument between Madden and his roommate.  Madden told police he wanted to put the puppy out of its misery.

Madden was arrested on preliminary charges of cruelty to an animal and possession of marijuana.
