Bicyclists say roads in Central Indiana remain treacherous, but motorists are learning to accommodate them.

Listen:

This comes as the Indy Bike Hub YMCA in Indianapolis celebrates its one year anniversary. Mayor Greg Ballard and others joined in on the celebration. Biking experts say at least 200 bicyclists commute to and from work everyday on the Monon Trail. They expect that number to grow as the city and localities across Central Indiana create more bike lanes. Bicycle Garage Indy's Jay Hardcastle says they're just starting to keep tabs on the number of bicyclists on the roads and accidents involving them.

YMCA Executive Director Karin Ogden says the Indy Bike Hub Y had 33,000 visits and Bicycle Garage Indy served seven-thousand customers in 2011. Mayor Ballard says the entire region is creating more bike lanes to attract younger people and business.
