Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating an aggravated assault on the city's east side Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 800 block of N. Shortridge Rd. by aparment workers saying a resident had possibly been assaulted. Officers were taken to an apartment and found a 60-year-old woman suffering from severe contusions and bleeding. The woman was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital where she remains in serious condition.

Police say the woman's car, a 2002 green Chevrolet Tracker SUV, was stolen and are asking for the public's help in locating it. The SUV has an Indiana license plate, number 220AXO. The last four digits of the SUV's vehicle identification number (VIN) is 4784.

Anyone with information on the assault or the location of the stolen vehicle is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
