Secretary of State Investigating Possible Voter Scam

9/14/2012

People in Tippecanoe County have been getting calls telling them about long election day lines and offering them a chance to vote by phone. The problem with that is there is no vote by phone program in Indiana, or really any other state except Vermont.

Listen:

Secretary of State Connie Lawson says she thinks this is a scam, designed to make Hoosier voters think they have voted by phone, keeping them away from the polls on election day. Lawson says they were able to track the phone number to the Seattle area, but weren't able to find an organization behind the calls.

The name that appears on the caller ID, "Vote USA" is a registered company near the Washington D.C. area, but Lawson says they aren't responsible. If the misleading calls continue, Lawson says the investigation into who is behind them will also continue.
