The Pentagon reports a Marine from Kokomo was one of two members of the Corps killed Saturday while providing combat support in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Bradley Atwell, 27, was assigned to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. The incident in Helmand Province is under investigation. 

Atwell’s grandmother, Shirley Oody, told the "Kokomo Tribune" her grandson was scheduled to return home in October. She told the paper, ”We heard [Atwell] was hit by a mortar during the attack on Prince Harry.”

Oody says her grandson was a 2003 graduate of Taylor High School. She said he was stationed in Yuma, AZ and was an aeronautical electrician in the Marines.
