Indianapolis Public Schools is no longer the largest school corporation in the state.
Listen:
Last week, IPS announced its enrollment was down about 1,500 students for a preliminary enrollment total of 30,128 students for the 2012-2013 school year. That makes it the second-largest school system in Indiana, behind Fort Wayne Community Schools, whose preliminary enrollment is listed at 30,622 students.
Fort Wayne's enrollment was also down from 2011, but only by 352 students. IPS Superintendent Dr. Eugene White said last week their drop in enrollment was much lower than expected. IPS had projected a loss of four thousand students, mainly due to the state takeover of four IPS schools.
