Chris Carlson is known in some circles as the worst grandfather in America, but he (and some of his family) say that isn't the case.

Carlson, 45,  is in jail in Arizona for child abuse after leading his grandsons, ages 12, 9 and 8, on a 19-mile trek through the Grand Canyon with little food and water to "toughen them up."  Carlson is a Central Indiana native, and his daughter and grandkids live in Indianapolis.

Michael Rubino of Indianapolis Monthly magazine interviewed Carlson several times over the phone after Carlson was jailed.  Rubino spoke to Ray Steele on Indy's Afternoon News about the magazine article derived from those interviews.
