Greenwood PD Officer Disciplined for Altercation Resigns

9/18/2012

A Greenwood Police officer who was disciplined for an altercation at a Greenwood restaurant nearly two years ago has resigned from the police force.

Police Chief John Laut says Officer Nick Dine resigned "for personal reasons," effective Monday, September 17. Chief Laut would not elaborate on Dine's resignation, saying the rest was "personnel-related."

Dine was suspended for thirty days by the police merit board last year after admitting to drinking vodka and getting into an argument outside an Applebee's restaurant in Greenwood in November 2010. Dine was also forced to undergo counseling and random alcohol testing after the incident.

The altercation began after a patron confronted Dine about leaving a baby unattended in a vehicle. Dine was off-duty at the time.
