An alert has been issued to Butler University students about someone impersonating a police officer on campus.
Police say a female student was approached by a man who told her he was a police officer and briefly showed a badge in his wallet. He then told her he needed to give her a breathalyzer (alcohol breath test).
After she gave the breath sample, he told her she could go. Campus police say the man’s actions are not consistent with procedures followed by Indiana Excise officers. Nor are they consistent with University Police Department procedures.
The man involved in the suspicious stop was described as follows: a white male, 27 to 33 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall, 155-165 pounds, with thick, dark hair trimmed short on the sides, clean shaven, wearing an untucked blue plaid button-down dress shirt over a white T-shirt, and dark jeans.
It has been confirmed by Excise Police this unknown individual is not one of their officers.
