A five-car crash injured two people Friday afternoon on the city's southeast side.

IFD Lt. Bonnie Hensley says the crash happened just before 5:00 on the Emerson Avenue bridge just south of Southport Road. An SUV rear-ended another vehicle which caused other cars to swerve and crash into each other.

Fire crews had to remove the roof and driver's side door of one car to get the driver out. He was taken to Wishard Hospital, though his condition is not known. Another driver, a female, was taken to St. Francis South Hospital to be checked out.
