Bennett to Give State of Education Address

9/25/2012

Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett will give the third annual State of Education address tonight.

Listen:

Indiana Youth Institute President and CEO Bill Stanczykiewicz says SAT's and AP exams will be main topics. He says the Department of Education has placed a high emphasis on the tests since two-thirds of the jobs in the 21st century economy require some education after high school.

Stanczykiewicz says technical eduation will not be overlooked in the address. He says Dr. Bennett will likely tout the state's 49 career tech ed centers that high schools share around the state. He says students can go to these centers by pursuing the technical honors diploma while pursuing an associates degree at Ivy Tech.

Stanczykiewicz Dr. Bennett may also talk about asking the General Assembly for a standardized math exam for 6th graders, similar to the already established 3rd grade reading standardized exam.
