Some needy Hoosier kids are getting some cool sports equipment.
Listen:
Indiana Sports Corporation is giving out more than 42,000 new and used equipment to 141 Central Indiana youth groups. They used Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis as the distribution center Tuesday. Spokesman John Dedman says this year marks the fifth year of the distribution called Geared for Health.
Youth Planning Director Molly Powell says the effort impacts 110,000 young people across Central Indiana. Powell adds that this year's drive is double compared to what they've done in the previous four years. She says the impact is about $850,000. Powell says with budget cuts, the program is important because it also promotes health among youth.
