The Archdiocese of Indianapolis and loved ones of a missing priest are concerned about his whereabouts.
Archdiocese Spokesman Greg Otolski says loved ones of Father Christiaan Kappes say he's vanished in Greece. Kappes was in Greece studying for his doctoral degree in theology in Athens. He was there at the invitation of the Vatican. Otolski says Kappes is a Beech Grove native and his family lives in Franklin, Indiana.
Otolski says family members reported that Kappes' translator and friend Ioanna Lekakou had been fighting over a family inheritance. They say Lekakou had gotten a death threat and he believed that he may have also been targeted. The family has not heard from Kappes since.
Otolski says Kappes has been missing all week. Kappes and his translator had been set to return to Indianapolis, but no one knows if they even made their flight. The Archdiocese is working with the Vatican and Senator Richard Lugar's office in an effort to find the pair.
