USA Luge will be coming to Indianapolis looking for youngsters who might want to take up the sport.
The USA Luge Slider Search will be in Indy on October 13th and 14th. Fred Zimney, Manager of Recruitment and Development for USA Luge, says it's a national recruitment tour for the sport. He says they're looking for kids between the ages of nine and 13 who have never seen or been on a luge sled before. He says they're looking for kids who participate in other sports and those skills will translate well to luge.
Zimney says the Slider Search is where the team finds about 90 percent of its athletes. He says on the last Olympic team in 2010, eight of the ten members of the team came from the Slider Search. Those kids selected from the search will be brought to a four-day training camp at the U-S Olympic training center in Lake Placid.
The Slider Search will be held at the Wilbur Shaw soap box derby course at 30th Street and Cold Spring Road. Those interested can register for the Slider Search by going to USA Luge dot org or by calling 800-USA-Luge.
