A 90-year-old man is in the hospital after his aircraft crash in a field in Putnam County.
Vernon Bothwell, Jr. freed himself from the wreckage of a 28-year-old home-built experimental aircraft, a model called a "Woody Pusher," after an emergency landing Tuesday afternoon in an open field in Cloverdale. He was taken to the Putnam County Hospital for treatment of a possibly fractured ankle and a cut to his head.
The FAA and local authorities are on the scene. State Police say a complete motor failure forced Bothwell to attempt a landing. He's an experienced pilot, a veteran of World War Two.
