Indiana's History of Haunted Locations

10/31/2012

A young woman, selling encyclopedias, murdered in Martinsville in 1968.  A serial killer, attracting suitors by mail, only to kill them and bury their bodies on her LaPorte farm.  These are just a couple subjects from Indiana's most haunted locations.

Listen:

Lisa Krick with the Ghost Research Society says the farm in LaPorte was owned by a woman named Belle Gunness  "She was a serial killer.  She would actually do mail order husbands and they'd come out and give her all their savings she would kill them and bury them on the land," Krick says.  "Her farm is supposed to actually be haunted as well."

More than 40 people are said to have been found dead on the Gunness farm back in the early 1900's, some of whom may still haunt the grounds today.

Krick says the state's rich, though sometimes sordid, history has lead to several stories about paranormal activity.  Krick says there are plenty of haunts in Indianapolis, including Monument Circle, and the Slippery Noodle, but Martinsville, Laporte, Evansville, Fort Wayne, all have some pretty famous haunts as well.
