It appears the Town of Fishers will soon be the City of Fishers.
The Hamilton County Clerk reports that with 198 of 203 precincts reporting late Election Night, voters approved elevating Fishers from a town to a so-called, "Second Class" city. The move means come 2014, Fishers residents will elect a city mayor.
Voters rejected a move to consolidate Fishers with Fall Creek Township. Fishers Town Councilman Pete Peterson says that means Fall Creek Township and the tax structure will remain. He adds the vote also means the city won't save money as it might have had voters selected the "modern city" option.
Ultimately, Peterson says it was ultimately up to voters to decide the issues and they did.
