The TSA is relaxing security restrictions for kids under 12 and adults over 75 at airports across the nation.

Listen:

TSA Indianapolis Director David Kane says those age groups will no longer be required to take off their shoes when passing through checkpoints. Despite that, Kane says airport security will remain on high alert. He says because it's the busiest travel time of year, they urge people to have their tickets and identification ready for screeners.

He says they should also abide by the 3-1-1 rule that restricts liquid, gels and aerosols to a one-quart plastic bag with the contents of each container holding no more than 3.4 ounces. Officials say during the busy travel season, the goal is to get people through security in under 20 minutes. They say the millimeter wave technology of scanners is harmless and people can opt out and get a thorough pat down. Kane says passengers with disabilities can call TSA ahead of time if need be. The TSA Cares number is 1-855-787-2227.
