The Pepsi Coliseum is literally a shell of its former self. Construction crews took the media on a walking tour of the arena which is undergoing a $63 million makeover.
Listen:
The makeover includes $10 million for a new, adjacent arena. Demolition is well underway and crews have pretty much gutted the inside of the building in step one of the upgrade plan. State Fairgrounds Project Manager Rich Trombley led the tour. He says they's removed everything from inside the structure including tons of concrete. He says a good portion of material is being recycled.
Trombley says the shell of the Coliseum will remain as is, but once completed, the inside will be brand new with new seating, lighting, scoreboards, windows and be completely up to modern code. The 32,000 square foot facility will also have all new flooring.
The new arena will open to the public in July 2013 and the completed Coliseum will open in time for the 2014 Indiana State Fair.
