Mooresville police and fire officials are investigating an early morning fire at Paul Hadley Middle School/Mooresville High School.

Authorities say the fire was set in the hallway of the middle school which set off the sprinklers and the alarm. The school sustained some smoke and water damage, however classes are expected to resume on Monday.

Police were able to identify a suspect after reviewing footage from a security camera video.

RTV6 reports the suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Skylar Matt of Mooresville. Police say Matt allegedly stole something from the school in additional to setting the fire.

Matt faces charges of arson, criminal mischief, theft, burglary, and trespassing.

School officials say all activities planned at the school buildings for the weekend have been canceled.
