Mayor: Washington State Pot Ideas Not for Indy
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard has not considered whether he supports the idea of legalizing marijuana.
"No, I haven't thought through that," Ballard said.
Ballard answered a question about legalizing pot on the same day that his new police chief Rick Hite was announced. The announcement also fell on the same day when the city's former Public Safety Director Frank Straub saw recreational marijuana use in Washington state become legal.
Straub left Indiana to become police chief in Spokane just weeks before Washington voters made it legal to have small amounts of marijuana.
But it appears Ballard has not paid close attention to the new Washington drug law.
"I'm not sure what idea they have out there in Washington state. But I know other states passed things in the election. I'm not sure they're going to fit the Indiana model right now," Ballard explained.
