Marian University to Play in its First NAIA National Championship
The football team at Marian University in Indianapolis is making it's first trip to the NAIA national championship game tonight (Thurs).
Play-by-play announcer David Pierce says the Marian football program has done tremendous things in its frirst 6 years of existence. Pierce says the team struggled as anyone would expect in its first year with a 1-9 season, but has fond success in the last few years getting to the quarter finals in 2010 and the semi finals in 2011.
Pierce attributes the program's success to their solid group of coaches and strong recruitment. The Knights have had former division one players on the team adding to the caliber of talent.
The Marian Knights face Morningside College of Iowa at 6:30pm. The Mustangs are ranked 3rd in the country in the NAIA and have had an undefeated seasonled by a quarterback who has thrown 47 touchdowns this year.
