Man in Custody After Standoff with Police
A man is in custody after a standoff with police on the city's southwest side early Monday morning.
IMPD Officer Michael Hewitt says officers were initially called to a home in the 1100 block of Sumner Avenue around 12:30 on a report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, a male suspect barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out. Hewitt says a female did come out and was taken away from the home by officers.
SWAT officers were called to the scene. A search warrant was obtained and officers fired bean bag rounds into the home to allow a reconnaissance robot inside to collect information. SWAT officers eventually made entry into the home and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
Officer Hewitt says no injuries were reported. No other information was immediately released.
