Hoosiers are celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Thursday marked the State of Indiana's 22nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Indiana Holiday Celebration at the Statehouse. Hundreds turned out for the special event honoring the slain civil rights leader. Kids from various Indianapolis schools were among those in attendance.

Governor Mike Pence told the crowd that to truly understand Dr. King, one must grasp the fact that he was a Christian man. Dozens of school kids from Christel House Academy were also present. "To me, it means Martin Luther made the famous speech 'I Have A Dream.' And it was for blacks and whites and all colors to get along and so that's what that means to me," said Jerome Hilliard.  Krista Willard added, "He changed things in our world and to me made it better and it's an honor for everybody to be with each other and for everybody to be together no matter what the skin color."
