State health officials are reporting another 13 deaths due to the flu, bringing the total statewide to 40.
Most of those patients had underlying medical conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma and renal disease. And most were older than 65 years, although two were under the age of 18. Marion County counts three additional deaths for a total of five. Both state and county health officials say all Hoosiers over the age of six months should get a flu shot. The county still has a restriction on local hospital visits remains in effect. The health department says 517 people went to emergency rooms last week with flu-like illness, up 28 percent from the previous week. But that previous week had produced a 69 percent increase.
