Police are searching for a burglary suspect who escaped from police custody Thursday afternoon.
Officers were called to a home in the 8100 block of East 34th Street on a report of a burglary in progress. Officers were told the victim's vehicle was seen leaving the area and quickly located the vehicle nearby. After a short pursuit, the driver, a 17-year-old boy, and an unidentified passenger were taken into custody.
As officers were processing paperwork, the passenger, who was handcuffed in the back of a police car, opened the car's door and fled. After a search involving the IMPD K-9 nute, officers were unable to locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5'6'' tall, 160 pounds with a thin mustache and possible gold teeth. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and Adidas tennis shoes with three dark gray vertical stripes. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
