Marion Co. Prosecutor Opposes Venue Change In Richmond Hill Case

1/28/2013

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office is opposing the motion for a change of venue in the trial of Richmond Hill suspect Monserrate Shirley.

Listen:

Her new attorney, Jim Voyles, filed that request. Deputy Marion County Prosecutor Denise Robinson acknowledges publicity surrounding the case. Robinson blames the publicity on Shirley's earlier attorney, Randall Cable, who talked to reporters himself and allowed Shirley and her boyfriend, Mark Leonard, to do the same. Robinson adds that the defense has not shown that a fair trial cannot be found in Marion County.

Leonard and his brother, Robert, are Shirley's co-defendants. Both are represented by public defenders. Shirley faces numerous charges following the house explosion that killed two. Robinson doesn't expect a trial for about a year.
