Three people were injured when an ambulance crashed in Hamilton County Saturday morning.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the accident in the 24000 block of State Road 37 just after 8am. Police believe the ambulance driver lost control of the vehicle and went off the east side of the road. The vehicle went airborne before striking a tree and landing in a ravine.
The driver suffered an arm injury and abrasions. The medic sustained a cut on the head. The ambulance was transporting a patient from Elwood who sustained a head injury as a result of the crash. All three were taken to Riverview Hospital in Noblesville for treatment. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
State Road 37 was closed for about 2 hours while members of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team investigated the incident. Officials say the ambulance was not running in emergency mode at the time of the crash.
