A bill making its way through the General Assembly would require Amazon to begin paying state sales tax this year.
Listen:
The online retailer struck a deal with former Governor Mitch Daniels to require them to begin paying the 7-percent sales tax in January 2014. But Indiana Retail Council President Grant Monahan says they just want fairness.
Monahan says the brick and mortar retailers with a physical presence in the state have been collecting and remitting the tax, and Amazon, who also has a physical presence in the state, should as well. Monahan says he doesn't expect the retailers to go to court if the bill doesn't pass.
Monahan says they're confident the legislation will pass this session and be signed into law by Governor Pence.
