Monroe County Schools Meet with Community on School Safety
The Monroe County Community School Corporation met Monday night with members of the community to discuss school safety.
The school safety forum was the third in a series of discussions with the community regarding various aspects of education. Beverly Smith, Director of School and Community Services, says one of the major themes was reminding students to report anything abnormal. She says another major theme was having a balanced approach to school safety. She says the district is trying to keep an environment that's welcoming but also stay vigilant in its safety practices.
The meeting had about 50 people in attendance including school staff, students and parents. Smith says the parents had concerns for continued action in the application of the district's school safety policies. She says parents enjoy the school environment and not only want their children to be safe, but also comfortable when they're in school.
Smith says the district continues to evaluate their school safety drills, making sure they're realistic and create an informed atmosphere among the students.
