Indiana stands to get over $16 million in federal funding to fund services and programs to assist victims of domestic violence.

U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly (R-IN) says the Senate passed the Support for Violence Against Women Act. The bill was originally passed in 1994 but was allowed to expire in September 2011. Donnelly says bill is designed to provide funding for projects that assist women who are most at risk.

Donnelly says those projects or programs could include women's shelters, access to legal services, and other prosecutor programs. The bill now moves to The U.S. House for approval.
