An Anderson University sophomore died after collapsing while playing intramural basketball on campus. 

Gary-native Xavier Walton was transported to an Anderson hospital where he was pronounced dead Thursday.  He graduated from Thea Bowman Leadership Academy in Gary and was a member of the Anderson University football team. 

AU Spokesman Chris Williams says students, staff and faculty gathered for a time of prayer for the family last night.  Additional details into his death have not been released. 

Williams says the university does conduct health screenings for its athletes, but he can not address Walton's personal health history.
