Fort Wayne Mayor Insists City is Safe, Despite Recent Murders
Despite five murders in the past week, Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry says Indiana's second largest city is safe.
Henry says the city's 12 homicides so far this year all targeted specific individuals and were not random acts of violence. He says investigators have linked the murders to drugs, gangs and domestic violence.
Henry and Police Chief Rusty York joined together Thursday to reassure community members. York says the community needs to unite in a determination that broad-daylight violence will not be tolerated. Henry said he’s already been contacted by the NAACP and the Fort Wayne Urban League asking what they can do to help.
