Man Injured in Shootout with Police

A northeast Indiana man is hospitalized in serious condition after being involved in a shootout with police.

Officers responded to a domestic report involving gunshots in Fulton Wednesday night.  46-year-old Nicholas Westerhoff was inside the home and refused orders to leave.  State police say negotiations with Westerhoff failed on several occasions.

Westerhoff later came to the door and started shooting.  Officers returned fire and Westerhoff was injured in the exchange.  Investigators do not know if Westerhoff's injures were self-inflicted or if he was injured by police gunfire.

No officers were injured.  The investigation is continuing.
