City Leaders Calling For 'Violent Free April'
The Ten Point Coalition and numerous other city officials including IMPD Chief Rick Hite and the City County Council's Maggie Lewis are calling for a "Violent Free April." They're kicking it off Tuesday morning.
Rev. Charles Ellis says they're calling on possible shooting suspects to think twice and help promote a spirit of non-violence across the city. "Those people who are involved in violence and perpetrating violence, we hope they lay their weapons down. Those people who stand with us, we hope they will stand with us and participate and join us in our effort," said Ellis.
Violent Free April is an attempt to keep the peace as warmer weather approaches. Ellis says they're holding prayer vigils, rallies and more faith walks. Their first kickoff breakfast takes place at Galilee Baptist Church Tuesday morning on East 25th Street.
