Metro Police are investigating a shooting on the city's east side Tuesday night which left one person dead and three others, including an IMPD officer, injured.

IMPD Officer Kendale Adams says around 8:20, officers were conducting a traffic stop at East 36th Street and Sherman Drive.  The officers became involved in a disturbance with the driver and shots were exchanged.

The driver was shot and died from his injuries.  One of the officers was shot in the lower arm and was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in good condition.  Two passengers in the car were also shot and were taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two additional passengers were not injured and were detained by officers for questioning.

Officer Adams says it's unclear what caused the initial disturbance between the officers and the driver.  The names of the suspects and officers have not been yet been released.
