The Indiana World Skating Academy is leaving its home at Pan Am Plaza in downtown Indianapolis.
The organization announced that it will suspend operations later this month and leave Pan Am Plaza where it has operated for over 20 years. Mo Wildey with the Indiana World Skating Academy says the age of the facility had a lot to do with the decision. He says as the building has gotten older, the IWSA has incurred increased costs, leaving the company with an annual operating shortfall.
Wildey says the company is looking to reinvent itself. Over the years, the academy has trained numerous ice sport athletes who have gone on to success in the collegiate and professional ranks.
He says while they don't have a timetable for resuming operations, the company is talking with the city of Indianapolis and other cities in hopes of finding either an existing building in which to operate or building a new facility.
