Improvements Coming Soon to Monument Circle

The design phase has begun for improvements to Monument Circle.

Department of Public Works spokesperson Stephanie Sample says the brickwork, sidewalks and curbs are over 30 years old. She says stormwater and other infrastructure underneath the Circle is over 100 years old. She says the old infrastructure has caused DPW to spend at least $125,000 a year to take care of safety issues to remain in ADA compliance.

Sample says the cost to complete the design and construction phases is estimated at $80 million. She says public meetings on the plans could be held as early as this fall.
