Indiana Political Analyst Says Sequester Debate Is All Political

Though the effects are very real, one Indiana political observer says the federal sequester debate is 100% political.

Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute President John Ketzenberger says the debate is currently being driven by politics rather than good public policy. Ketzenberger says President Obama and Congress couldn't reach agreement to avoid the sequester from the outset and now American workers are suffering through job furloughs.

Ketzenberger says the entire issue is hurting the overall perception of Washington lawmakers. He says at this point, the two sides appear to be more concerned about pointing fingers and winning an argument rather than setting sound public policy. Ketzenberger says given the current situation, both budget cuts and tax hikes are warranted, but compromise appears impossible.
