State Trooper Struck on I-65
An Indiana State Trooper is recovering after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 65 in downtown Indianapolis Tuesday afternoon.
Trooper Ronneal Williams was working a crash around 4:45 p.m. in the center lane of northbound I-65 at the Pennsylvania/Meridian Street exit. Williams was standing behind an SUV involved in the crash as it was backing up when he noticed another vehicle approaching him from behind and not stopping.
As Williams yelled for the driver to stop backing up, he was struck in the lower legs by a metal luggage rack attached to the end of the car. Williams was knocked down and rolled to safety as the SUV continued backing up and struck the incoming vehicle.
Williams was taken to Methodist Hospital complaining of pain and abrasions to his lower legs. He was later released and is recovering at home.
The driver of the SUV was issued a traffic citation for disregarding a police officer directing traffic.
