Many if not most of us are on one social network or another and we've got friends and connections, but do computers, social networks, smartphones, tablets and other technologies and devices make us truly connected? Ed Hirt is professor of psychological and brain sciences at Indiana University in Bloomington.
Hirt says communication is always at our fingertips, but popular devices usually mean we don't give others in our presence our full attention. Hirt says in many sectors of society, face to face communication can be lost. Hirt says true communication requires face to face connection complete with social and verbal cues and expression.
