A woman is dead and a man is in jail after an alleged stabbing led to a standoff on the city's east side Wednesday afternoon.
IMPD officers were called to the 2200 block of North Arlington Avenue when they found the victim in critical condition outside of the home with a stab wound to the neck. The victim later died at Wishard Memorial Hospital.
IMPD Officer Kendale Adams says the victim's 14-year-old daughter told police the suspect, 51-year-old Andrew Reynolds, was still inside the home possibly with the knife and also a gun. SWAT officers were called to the scene and Reynolds was taken into custody without further incident. He was taken to IMPD Homicide for questioning and later arrested for murder.
The victim's daughter witnessed the stabbing, but was not injured in the incident. A woman who claims to be the victim's cousin tells our news gathering partners at RTV6 that the victim and Reynolds had been a couple for nine years and had a history of domestic violence.
It's the fourth homicide on Indianapolis' east side in 48 hours. IMPD Chief Rick Hite tells RTV6 that people need to be more vigilant in reporting suspicious behavior to police so incidents like this don't happen again.
